  • Steak rec: Rib Eye or Strip Steak
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
  • Kosher Salt
  • Pepper
  • Granulated Garlic Powder


  • Ideally, you will have time to pull your steak out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature.  If not, just add a couple minutes to the cooking time.  Drizzle the steak with olive oil and rub it all over. Season both sides with salt, pepper and garlic powder (I use a lot of garlic powder, I'm Italian). Dredge the edges of the steak in the seasonings left on your work surface so they get flavored too.
  • Have a hot grill ready to go.
  • Put the steak on a hot grill and don't touch it!  For a super thick steak I cooked it for about 9 minutes total, flipping halfway through for medium-rare (and I keep the lid to the grill closed). 
  • When cooked to your desired temperature remove from the grill and place on a cutting board.  Cover it with a piece of foil and LET YOUR MEAT REST for about 10 minutes.
  • After 10 minutes, move to a plate or slice and serve.
