Virtual Wine Tasting

I’ve been meaning to post for weeks. I have recipes to share. My goat cheese and tomato tart, heaven. My chanterelle toasts were to die for. But posting just isn’t happening. It has been a bummer week for me personally. Not for the family. Everyone is fine. I’m cranky again. That’s all there is to it!

We got a dog. We all four (five if you count Reggie) are in this house pretty much ALL. THE. TIME. My husband is an only child and likes being around people. I am not an only child. I need alone time. There is no alone time and it is getting to me again. And with four humans and a dog… the house is dirty. It is always dirty. No matter how much I clean; it feels dirty.

In addition, we have virtual school starting next week. 100% virtual. School hasn’t even started and I am already overwhelmed with all the school emails. I truly can’t keep track. So to sum up… I’m constantly feeling overwhelmed in a dirty house. This is not a good place for me. And I feel sorry for those who live with me.

However, tonight we had a virtual wine tasting because of husband’s work. Ahhh… this is something I can look forward to. This is something I can “make a moment.” (More on making moments another time.) so let’s dive in head first.

We received two bottles of wine earlier this week. Two bottles we didn’t have to pay for!!!! #CovidWin

The first was a bottle of Twomey Sauvignon Blanc and the second was Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon. My self-appointed job was to make food that pairs with these. A project I can get behind.

First off, I don’t like Sauvignon Blanc. If I’m drinking white I’m chardonnay all the way. Dry, buttery, oaky, delicious, Chardonnay. I can pair food with a chard. What do I do with an SB? I searched Google a bit then did whatever I felt like. So, our white pairing plate consisted of prosciutto wrapped fresh figs, brie & grapes and deviled eggs (p. 62 in your cookbook). Half the deviled eggs had a sliver of smoked salmon on top. Delish. All these went beautifully with the (actually delicious) Twomey Sauvignon Blanc.859D0B20-02DF-4CD4-91E1-076796DA9CD8

Then I made the plate to pair with the Silver Oak Cab. No problem. Truffle marcona almonds, paper thin crackers spread with Boursin and topped with a slice of salami, piece of baguette topped with thin slices of beef tenderloin (p. 88), horseradish and arugula and a dark chocolate square. Done!

Not to mention, I spent the last two days doing a deep clean on the house. By the time 5 o’clock rolled around tonight I felt relieved. At peace. Clean. Ahhhh. Let’s taste this wine!

It was a great virtual wine tasting. Thanks to Perficient and Silver Oak. You made it a great start to the 937th Covid weekend.

If my house stays clean until school starts on Wednesday it will be a true feat. If there is any free wine remaining by tomorrow night it will be a miracle.

The moral of the story… take control of the things you can (clean the house) and take advantage of the things given to you (free wine!!!!).

Happy Weekend!

  1. Oh honey I feel your pain! Doesn’t anyone in my house know how to use a vacuum cleaner?? Haha 😂
Silver Oak is.the.best! Yum! Lucky you!
    Cheers! 🍷

    1. My kids were supposed to have the stairs vacuumed by dinner Friday night? Guess what still isn’t done.

  2. So glad to hear about figs because I ALWAYS miss the season. This is a great blog and food looks delish for sure. And, I know the feeling about the house not cleaned but too know your home and it has never been dirty. Just for the record and your readers!!! 🍷

    1. Well, it was dirty to me. I roasted some figs last night and topped with some goat cheese and honey. Most of us in the house really liked it; A not so much.
