Trick or Treat

Halloween is only two days away.  I don’t know about where you live but it is supposed to be another cold, wet Halloween here.  I feel bad for my kids.  When I was younger, I remember it always being pretty nice on Halloween.  I can’t remember the last time my kids had a Halloween without rain.

It is supposed to be colder than normal and wouldn’t you know it, Halloween is the coldest day of the whole week AND we might have snow.  The high on Thursday is 38; on Friday it’s 52.  Why?

I’m a big fan of routines.  Our Halloween routine is I stay home and hand out candy and Husband takes the kids Trick or Treating.  I like to give out the big candy bars.  I love seeing the kids’ faces light up when they see those full-sized treats. IMG_6074

But this year the adults are going to get a treat too.  It was Husband’s idea.  I’m pretty sure it’s because he will be the one out in the cold.  I am making Apple Jacks for all the parents that need a little warm-up.  What are Apple Jacks?  I learned in college.  At yellow house.  If you and I were good friends in school, you know exactly where I was.  Here are the ingredients:

Here is the method:

Below I have listed the ingredients for 1 serving.  Obviously, I will be making more on Halloween.  I will either put it in a large pot on the stove or in a crock pot on low to keep warm.  If you have one of those hot beverage urn things, that would be great too.  Here’s to keeping your spirits up on the holiday!

Wishing you a warm and Happy Halloween!

Apple Jacks

Serves 1

Ingredients:
6 oz Apple Cider
1 oz Jack Daniels
1 Cinnamon Stick

Put a pot on the stove and turn heat to medium-low.
Pour apple cider and whisky into pot.
Add the cinnamon stick.
Bring to a gentle simmer then turn heat to low to keep warm.

This isn’t a strong drink. If you want more of a whiskey flavor just up the Jack Daniels a bit.
You can increase this recipe to serve as many as you want. If you want to use an entire gallon of Apple Cider use about 2 1/2 – 3 cups of Jack Daniels (or almost all of a 750ml bottle).
